The MAP sensor is listed amongst the most crucial sensors in a vehicle. It is responsible for ensuring that the computerized functions related to the car’s ignition are executed with precision.
UNDERSTANDING MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR FUNCTIONING
The MAP sensor regulates the input/output to the car’s PCM (Powertrain Control Module). The MAP sensor also recognizes any form of pressure changes within the engine’s ignition system and generates a corresponding ignition signal. Every time, vacuum/pressure input rises, the voltage output readings by the MAP sensor dip. This voltage reading is sent to the PCM which in turn ensures that the timing/intensity of the ignition system is controlled.

Indications of a malfunctioning Manifold Pressure Sensor include but not limited to smoky exhaust from the car along with extreme engine vibrations. Ignoring issues with the sensor can cause the car to completely shutdown. If you are having repeated issues in starting your car, it is advisable to check the MAP settings. You should check all the parts of the MAP sensor, including its vacuum hose and the electrical connections. Failure in the parts are the more common triggers causing a sensor to function irregularly. Total breakdown of a sensor is a rare happening. However, if the MAP components aren’t repaired in time, the voltage fluctuations can cause irreparable damage to the actual sensor.
