Many things in this world cannot exist without another useful thing. One important item is the wheel. There is no use of the wheel without the use of axle. The axle and the transmission parts almost run the mechanism in which a car runs. We know that the roads in any part of the world are far away from perfect. The car is forced to move around hurdles and bumps which are fairly existent everywhere. The wheel alone cannot manage these debacles. This is where the wheel plays an important role. The axle has been evolved over time to spin in almost all types of configurations and situations. It’s even tougher for front wheel drive cars as the wheel takes almost all the load of steering the car. For this the axle must be as flexible as a gymnast. This problem was solved using constant velocity (CV) joints. So vehicles with independent suspensions use the type of axle with two CV joints which deliver flexible power to the wheels. A CV joint is a collection of bearings that allows the axle rotate in different directions and planes. A flexible rubber boots consists of a protective layer of grease which keeps dust and grime from entering. With consistent use, moisture and dirt enters this rubber boots and slowly the grease wears off. This begins the end of the CV axle. This is indicated by clicking and crackling noises made both while acceleration and deceleration. But it’s quite simple to change the axle by removing , repacking and replacement of the old boot with a new boot. If this is a real drive vehicle with two CV joints, disconnect the car battery, lift the vehicle with a jack. Then let’s some oil to drip on to the bolts.
The suspension should be disassembled and brake lines and all other debacles should be removed for safety.
Remove the axle nut and wheel.
Loosening the strut mounts and sway bar bush linkings which makes it easier for axle removal.
Lossen and remove the wheel side axle mounting bolts.
Now the axle should be removed from the wheel. Oil seals will be damaged if the axle is allowed to hang from the suspension.
A pry should be used to carefully remove the axle from transmission. Be careful not to damage the axle seals or oil seals.
Remove the stabilizer bar linkage as it may hamper the process of removing the axle component. If the axle splines show damage, mount a C- clip on to both the axles.
Transfer the axle seals, ABS rings or any other important parts to the new transmission.
Use proper pressure and torque on the axle bolts. Check the axle rotation and rearrange the Removed the taken out components.
