Tata has recently announced that they are going to stop the production of their probably most popular SUV Safari and comparatively newer model Zest and they will be focusing on their new offerings, well versed with modernstyling, like Tiago, Tigor and the newly announced SUV Tata Nexon. Nexon is an all-new crossover SUV that brings all the features of Tiago and Tigor with more raw power. Tata is aiming to take on rival models like Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Ford EcoSport in a bid to take over this highly competitive segment of cars.
The Suzuki Vitara Brezza has already put Maruti ahead of thecompetition with its modest styling and compact look, while Tata aims to dig into the segment with the new Sub-Compact offering – Nexon.
Tata created a lot of buzz at 2016 Auto Expo with the announcement of Nexon, which is currently one of the most sought after launch from the company. This new Compact SUV is surely raising a lot of eyebrows and this is going to be exciting as two of the country’s largest automakers will be in direct competition with each other. Let’s have a deeper look at both the models to ascertain which one is the more suitable option for you.
Design – Which one looks better?
Tata Nexon gets the new IMPACT design, which gives it a sleek and compact SUV look with a sloping roof. Nexon comes with a sharp crease that has gone up along with the belt. Tata has provided large sixteen-inch tyres that give it a sporty and powerful look. Rear windshield and tail lamps are kept small and the design will surely be interesting to someone who is looking to buy their first SUV.
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is based on new design philosophy from the Maruti and built on C-Platform. Maruti has kept the side profile same as their earlier launch Vitara. The B-Pillar is blackened with small tail lights. Brezza comes with large headlamps and gives a traditional SUV lookoverall. Maruti also offers various new colors that have been very successful until now.
Both the models are of the same length – 3,995mm exact with Nexon being a little wider and Breeza being a little taller. Nexon provides a ground clearance of 198mm and Brezza comes with 200mm ground clearance.
Brezza sports the traditional SUV looks while Tata Nexon looks more like a crossover with sleek and compact design. Both the models appeal to thedifferent mindset of audience and it will be interesting to see which one gets more popularity in this highly competitive segment.
The Interior Designs
Nexon, a crossover from the new Tata family and have all the features of Tiago and Tigor and comes with rear AC vents, Touchscreen Infotainment system, height adjustable driver seat, power-operated ORVMs, Steering mounted audio & calling controls, Rain sensing wipers and Push start/stop. Maruti is already offering all these features minus the rear AC vents along with a 30mm wheelbase, which is longer than Nexon and offers more space inside the car. However, we are yet to see a Tata car with less space inside the cabin. The color schemes of Tata are sharp and sleek, providing a good driving pleasure.
Let’s Talk Power with Engine Capacity
Tata Nexon will be available in diesel and petrol while Vitara Brezza only comes with adiesel engine, which is strange from Maruti as they are known for their petrol vehicles. Tata Nexon powers with a 1.2-litre Petrol engine that produces 110PS power and 170Nm torque with a 6-speed manual transmission while diesel engine is 1.5ltr, producing power of 110PS and 260Nm torque, again with a 6-speed manual transmission. Tata will be offering automatic transmission as well but the specifications are unclear as of now.
Maruti Vitara Brezza, on the other hand, comes only with adiesel engine and is packed with a 1.3-litre engine that is capable of producing 90PS power with 200Nm torque and comes with 5-speed manual transmission.
Nexon also comes with multi drives modes like Eco, City and Sports and surely is a win in terms of engine performance and power. Brezza, on the other hand, looks slightly underpowered when compared to Nexon.

Maruti Vitara Brezza is available from Rs. 7.23 Lakh to Rs. 9.91 Lakh for the highest model and Tata Nexon prices are still to be revealed but experts are predicting that it will be available somewhere between Rs. 6.5 Lakh to Rs. 10.5 Lakh for the upper models. Maruti has affordable status is Indian car market but Tata is taking a dig at this segment by keeping the prices in competition with the rival models.
Maruti has surely made an impact on this segment with Brezza but Tata Nexon is going to a tough competitor for the biggest carmaker with Nexon and it will be interesting to see the sales number once the car is on the road.
