While your cars optimum performance could mean a pleasure ride, an unwanted vibration from the tires could be irritating. This tire noise could be an indication that your car needs balancing. However wheel balancing and wheel alignment are two different things. Wheel balancing has to do with adjusting the weight around your car tire while wheel alignments has to do the angle of the wheels and its bearing with the ground.
Here are signs to know your car needs balancing
- VIBRATION of your steering wheel and the whole car (seat and floor). This vibration increases as your car speed increases. The vibration is observed round 40, 50,70MPH of the car speed range.
- NOISE: you start hearing humming and buzzing noise that accompanies the vibration and increases with your speed.
- WEAR OUT OF TIRE: a balanced wheel begins the wearing out of tire from across the tread but an unbalanced tire wears out along its edges.
- POINTS OF VIBRATION if the aforementioned vibration is very severe on the steering wheel it’s an indication that it’s the front wheels that need balancing but if the vibration is severe around the back seats and car floor that is an indication the problem is with the back wheels
