In Pre historic times wax was needed for its protective and physical qualities. Basically used on wood, it served as a water resistant barrier. Years later in the Pre acrylic age wax along the polish was used on modern vehicle paint. Today Acrylic paints are not designed to be polished and wax only serves to cover and dull the factory finish. The key thing to remember in the preservation of new paint it to avoid all unnecessary friction, this includes buffing of wax and use of abrasive polish. Don’t confuse paint restoration with paint preservation. Different tools are need for different jobs.
