Noise is usually the first sign of bad wheel hub bearing. This kind of noises: chirping, squeaking, grinding, growling, moans, whining, these noises are heard from the car suspension when the car is motion. This noises changes can vary according to the direction. The noise becomes highlighted when you turn the direction of the worn bearing and either increases or decrease according to the speed.
Another sign could include dancing tires, loose steering experience and decrease of noise upon application of the breaks.
WAYS OF CHECKING FOR A BAD WHEEL HUB BEARING
Use your hands to rotate the wheel and notice noise or roughness, this could be a sign of bad wheel bearing.
Also to be checked is the temperature of the hub after 10-15 minutes of drive. This should be barely warm but if it is warm, it can be sign of a bad wheel bearing.
basically, the best measure is to replace your wheel hub bearings together (in pairs) so you won’t have to be visiting your mechanic often.
